Day 1: object selection, venting and mold making
Introduction to Bronze Casting: Begin with a comprehensive overview of the history, techniques, and materials used in bronze casting. Gain a deeper understanding of the significance of bronze in the art world.
Object selection: with the help of your instructor/s choose an object that will lend itself to the investment process. This class will be centered around organic burnouts so as your are choosing your organic objects select things that can be burnt out by 1000F.
Venting: in this step we will start the often intricate process of attaching wax venting to almost every high-point. Our goal here is to get the bronze in to our work and the air out as efficiently as possible.
Investment Molding: in this step we create a wax paper and wire form around the object to pour a plaster silica mixture creating the investment. Your instructor will guide you through methods of reducing unwanted bubbles as well as picking up as much surface detail as possible.
Day 2: Bronze Casting and Finishing
Burnout Process: when you come into copper rivet studios your investment will be burned out held at 900F and ready for bronze to be pour in. as we wait for the bronze to melt we will have beer battered brats and smores you can make over the furnace as we lightly go over stoichiometry(the study of combustion in gasses) and learn how we read and adjust the furnace.
Bronze Casting: Experience the awe-inspiring moment as molten bronze is poured into your mold. Learn about temperature control, safety measures, and the art of pouring bronze to ensure a successful casting.
Cleanup and Finishing: Discover the intricate post-casting techniques, including welding, chasing, and patination, to bring out the beauty of your bronze sculpture.
